Students Win Pride Bookmark Contest

Two students learned during Pride Month that they are the winners of a District-wide bookmark contest celebrating diversity, equity and inclusion.

The contest invited children and youth to enter their designs about what pride means to them. One winner was chosen at the elementary level and another selected from the high school entries.

Winner Jemimah K from 91资源全集 South Secondary explains her design:

As I was thinking about ideas about what would look nice, I got stuck on a butterfly because it鈥檚 a beautiful unique thing about change, adapting, growing and becoming.鈥

Winner Erika B from Sperling Elementary is excited that her creation was chosen from hundreds of entries.

I won, wow! For the design I chose, it鈥檚 a bookmark so I wanted to make it related to reading. I did some research on Google to think about what book titles I would put on there about pride.鈥

The contest was put on by the District鈥檚 SOGI Committee, which gathered to review the entries and select the winners. The Committee is made up of representatives across partner groups including parents, students, trustees, school and district staff.

The bookmarks will be professionally printed and shared at events, including the upcoming Pride Parade in Vancouver this summer.
